SFCC Newsletter / March 2021 Chairman's Note Casey Whitmarsh
It is hard to believe we are coming up on a year of COVID-19. When it first came to our attention last March, I, like many of you, was expecting it to pass. Quite naively, even our leaders and scientists predicted we could return to 'normal' in a month or two.
When it became apparent that wasn't going to happen, we all had to pivot and fast. Hand washing, mask wearing, and social distancing became the new norm. As a Chamber, we tried to keep the information, as fast changing as it was, flowing to you through email and social media.
We started monthly webinars both for our members and the Lorton/Fairfax community. The Payroll Protection Program (PPP), (Re)Opening for Business in Fairfax, Working remotely and Distance Learning were just a few of the topics we tackled.
We posted blogs on the new Workplace Safety Guidelines which took effect last summer in Virginia and updated you on the Rebuild VA Grant program. And on top of it all, we unveiled the new SFCC website and offered a new Sustaining Membership.
Whew! What a year it has been! But we are not done yet! We are delighted that many of you have decided to join us on this exciting journey. We could not offer services and community events without your support. If you haven't checked out our new membership offerings, I urge you to do NOW!
Offered to you at a fraction of the cost of hiring out for these professional services.
We have a very exciting April program planned around our SFCC Annual Meeting. Look for details from Asst. Executive Director Carla Olivo in the next few weeks. With more and more of us receiving the vaccine, enabling things to open up safely, we are confident that the light at the end of the tunnel is coming. We will move towards it together as a Chamber.

Thanks for your Support! Kudos to those members who helped us in supporting the upcoming South County High School Athletic program sold at all high school sporting competitions. The Chamber purchased a full page ad in the program. We are happy to support our local high school athletics and we are grateful to our members who assisted us in this endeavor.

Life Insurance & Divorce - Are You Really Protected?
The recent Virginia Supreme Court decision in Woods v. Martin exposed potential risks for divorcees reliant on life insurance proceeds thought to be assured to them in their divorce agreement. Two attorneys of Offit Kurman, P.C., Thomas W. Repczynski and Alyssa Davies, delve into why the surviving ex-wife and her children were not as protected as she had believed and offer their tips to avoiding similar risks and costly, time-consuming legal battles.

Special Thanks Our continuing thanks to Laurel Hill Golf Club, General Manager Ryan Carmen and the Holiday Inn Express of Lorton, Director of Sales Erica Lee for offering meeting facilities free of charge to the Chamber for our monthly Board of Directors meetings and other events throughout the year.
