SFCC Newsletter / April 2021 Chairman's Note Casey Whitmarsh
April is always an exciting month for the Chamber. In a typical year, we would be planning our annual meeting to highlight what the Chamber had been doing over the previous 12 months. Needless to say, the past year has been anything but 'typical'. And while many have received the Covid vaccine, we are not quite ready to begin in-person events just yet.
So as we have done in 2020 and so far in 2021, we are adapting and I might add, we are getting pretty good at the art of adapting! This year the Chamber will be hosting our first ever virtual SFCC Business Summit. We've come up with a series of roundtable discussions we think will really benefit both our members and the business community at large. We welcome you to join us and share the roundtable discussion with whomever you feel would benefit from it. These roundtable discussions are open to current Chamber members and the community alike! The more the merrier!
Each roundtable will begin with a short presentation from a subject matter expert and then we will open the floor to questions. We are hoping the result will be some really good discussions among our members. This format allows for the free exchange of ideas and information. So if you have a business quandary, bring it to the appropriate roundtable. We feel the roundtable discussions will bring additional value to your business, regardless if you are just starting or many years in.
Will You Take Advantage of our Spring Business Showcase Special?
We are super excited to be able to offer a great incentive for you to make the switch to a Sustaining Membership, if you haven't already. All Legacy Members choosing to switch to an annual membership in the months of April, May or June can take advantage of our Business Showcase Special.
In addition to all the benefits that come with an annual Sustaining Membership, you will receive an entire month of special marketing on all of our social media platforms! If ever your business needed a little boost or maybe you have a special discount you plan to run for your customers, the Business Showcase Special can provide the added exposure you need. See below for all the details.
And please plan to join us for the SFCC Business Summit on April 29th.

New Legislation Limits Tax Deductions for Virginia Business Owners
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has signed legislation which is a mix of conformity and deconformity for taxpayers in the state. If you are a recipient of Payroll Protection Plan loan forgiveness or received funding under the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (“EIDL”) program for the Tax Year 2020, this affects you.
Special Thanks Our continuing thanks to Laurel Hill Golf Club, General Manager Ryan Carmen and the Holiday Inn Express of Lorton, Director of Sales Erica Lee for offering meeting facilities free of charge to the Chamber for our monthly Board of Directors meetings and other events throughout the year.
