SFCC Newsletter / May 2021 Chairman's Note Casey Whitmarsh
I would like to thank everyone who played a part in making the SFCC 2021 Business Summit a success! From our great panels of subject matter experts, to your Executive Board, to all of you who attended, it was an informative event and your participation is appreciated.
We would like to do more of these events so please let us know what topics are important to you. We are here to make sure you get the most of your Chamber membership so let us know what you think would be helpful.
Our Happy Hour/Annual meeting at the end of the day, allowed me to recap all of our successes over the past year. And what a year it has been! We worked tirelessly to revamp the way we communicated with you and the community. We updated our website and doubled down on our social media efforts.
We knew with everyone stuck at home, there would be renewed emphasis on doing business virtually. Even if you were not selling your product or service online, customers and clients would still try to find you digitally, which is exactly why a digital presence became so important over the last year.
To bring you informative, timely information we hosted monthly webinars. We were able to establish a nice relationship with the Small Business Administration to give you the latest details on the the PPP loan forgiveness programs. We offered the latest from INOVA and their efforts to treat COVID patients and then to offer the vaccine locally. One of our most popular webinars was the Distance Learning Town Hall last November with local school officials and FCPS. All of these webinars, as well as the recent Business Summit, can be viewed on the Chamber website.
We have grown as a Chamber over the last year with new Sustaining Members joining each month. And each month, we are thrilled to welcome Legacy Members who decide to upgrade their membership. We couldn’t have accomplished so much if it weren’t for the efforts of our board members, Carla Olivo - our Executive Director, and Kevin Tracy - our Membership Advisor. I am blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people.
Until next month,
Casey Whitmarsh casey.whitmarsh.yav9@statefarm.com

Welcome to our newest members!
Congratulations to two SFCC Members who always leave their mark on the local community! Dave Kyle, CEO of Trademasters Services was recognized at the Business Summit for his work in maintaining the Lorton Clock Tower throughout the year. And Casey Whitmarsh of State Farm was recognized for his tireless efforts of community service including the Saturday Dinner Initiative which helped many Lorton families during the pandemic. Kudos to Dave and Casey, just two of the many SFCC members making a difference in the community.
Business Showcase Special on for May and June!
The Chamber is running a membership special in May and June. Legacy Members choosing to make the switch to a Sustaining Membership in the next two months will enjoy an entire month of additional digital marketing. The best part is, you get to choose which month you would like the complimentary Digital Marketing Blitz! You can schedule the additional promotion during an opportune time for your business. Do you traditionally slow down over the winter months? If so, you might schedule your blitz in the late fall. Have a huge event or sale coming up? Schedule your blitz to help promote it. This type of marketing effort would cost quite a bit if you were to hire out. Take advantage of the Chamber's special offer for May and June. Email ExecDirector@southfairfaxchamber.org
Upcoming Member Events! There is still time to get your ticket to the Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) virtual performance of Sleeping Beauty, online from May 8, 12 AM to May 9 at midnight. MSA pre-recorded its Sleeping Beauty performance at the George Washington Masonic Temple in Alexandria. There are three shows, each with a different cast. Virtual admittance to one show is $20, two shows is $25, and three shows is $30. To purchase tickets, click here.
