SFCC Newsletter / July 2021 Chairman's Note Casey Whitmarsh
We are half way through 2021! Can you believe it? Are you on your way to reaching your business goals for the year? You might notice the subject line of this newsletter is one you will probably see multiple times this month as businesses hosting sales or specials like to advertise "Christmas in July!"
According to legend, "Christmas in July" began as a celebration at a summer camp in 1933, when a North Carolina camp dedicated July 24 and 25 to the winter holiday. They created fake snow from cotton, decorated a tree and had a gift exchange.
By the 1950s, retailers embraced the concept, and now, "Christmas in July" sales are a big summer shopping draw encouraging early birds to get a jump on their holiday shopping.
The Chamber's version of this is an extension of our Business Showcase Special for Legacy members like yourself interested in upgrading to a Sustaining Membership. In the spirit of "Christmas in July," I urge you to consider a membership upgrade but do it before July 7 when this special offer ends!
This is a Win / Win for you and the Chamber! You have the opportunity to give your business a digital marketing blitz at a time of YOUR choosing when your business can benefit the most. And your support allows the Chamber to continue offering informational programs to our members as well as the community at large. For more information on the Business Showcase Special see below.
Enjoy these long, warm days of July! I hope you all are able to step away from your desk, the office, your store or kitchen to take a well-earned break!

Ribbon-Cutting for the Laurel Hill Central Green Picnic Shelter
The SFCC was honored to be a part of the recent ribbon-cutting for the $3 million picnic shelter project which included construction of four picnic pavilions, an accessible asphalt loop road, parking, trails and supporting infrastructure to include storm water management facilities and related site work. Local dignitaries included Dale Rumberger of the South County Federation, Supervisor Dan Storck, and Mount Vernon District Park Authority Board member Linwood Gorham. The new shelters can be reserved and offer seating capacities of up to 213 people. Its a great space to host family gatherings, staff meetings and parties. Central Green is located southeast of SFCC member, Laurel Hill Golf Club, and has a large lawn area suitable for activities, such as races, kite flying and special events.
