It is an exciting time to be a member of the South Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. Despite the challenges of the last couple of years, we have successfully navigated a huge change in our membership structure. By moving to an annual Sustaining Membership model, we are better able to serve you, our members. The SFCC is always creating new networking and promotional opportunities to help our member businesses succeed and grow. We participate in several annual community events which offer our members and the Chamber as a whole the opportunity to gain visibility in the community. As a Chamber we feel very strongly that when community and business work together, everyone wins!

Its been a very busy time in our local business community and the Chamber has been there every step of the way. In the last two weeks, we've seen the long awaited-for grand opening of Amazon Fresh in Lorton. SFCC member, the Workhouse Arts Center broke ground on their latest renovation project and the Lorton Fire Station celebrated the grand opening of their new facility. It's a great time to be a SFCC member and participant in the local business community!

We are a unique Chamber in that we have a combined focus on business prosperity while contributing to make the South Fairfax area an amazing place to live. This philosophy led to our choice on the 2022 Community Service Award recipient, Carla Olivo. She embodies the values that we hold so dear at the South Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. Her efforts to connect business with community have been going strong since 2008, when the Marine Corps moved her family to the South Fairfax area. Her various leadership roles with the South County HS PTSO, local programs & sports clubs that her kids attended (even after her kids stopped attending), the very successful Lorton Holiday Extravaganza (and much more) are just a small testament to her passion and willingness to help others. All of that is coupled with her wonderous zest for expanding the reach of the SFCC. We feel fortunate to have her as our Executive Director. She truly is a marvel and deserving of this award. We are so grateful to the South Fairfax community for sharing her with us.

Until next month,

The Chamber was there as the Workhouse broke ground on an exciting renovation to enhance the visitor experience and entice restaurants and breweries to open in Buildings W13 and W15. The project will restore two historic structures for future

food and beverage tenant use.

South Fairfax Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award 2022

SFCC Executive Director Carla Olivo was awarded the Chamber's 2022 Community Service Award. Carla works as a Business Analyst for SFCC member Trademasters.

In addition to her duties there and assisting Chamber members, Carla is also Content Coordinator for Best Version Media, heading up three regional community magazines in northern Virginia. She is a staple in the local Lorton community with her involvement with the Lorton Holiday Extravaganza, now in its 17th year. Carla served as the Director of the event for 8 of those years and she was instrumental in the inaugural Lorton Spring Fling this past spring.

On behalf of the Chamber, she manages our social media, promoting sustaining members and the SFCC's involvement in local community events. She also assists Chamber members in getting the most out of their SFCC membership.

At the SFCC Back to Business Super STIR, Chamber Chair and a recipient of last year's Community Service Award, Casey Whitmarsh presented Carla with her award.

Congratulations Carla!
