Casey Whitmarsh SFCC Chair |
| One of the greatest joys I get from serving as the Chair of the South Fairfax Chamber of Commerce is seeing our Members take full advantage of the membership and succeed with their goals as a member. In this Chair's monthly note to the membership, I've talked about the various reasons members have for joining the Chamber or upgrading their membership to include help with marketing and social media or taking advantage of the Chamber Landing page, Mobile App and texting keyword. Of course many of you also look forward to the networking opportunities. As a Chamber, we enjoy supporting our members and making sure you all get what you want from your SFCC membership. |

One of those members who take full advantage of their membership is Steve and Elena Jordon with the Emma Jordon Kidz Fighting Cancer Foundation. This non-profit member makes sure to have a representative at most of the Chamber's networking events. In fact, Elena came early to the Back To Business STIR in May to help with the set-up. They have stepped up to support the Chamber by sponsoring networking events and they frequently like and share our social media posts, helping the Chamber to further build our network online.
The Chamber was only too happy to help publicize the Foundation's upcoming Gold Out events. The month of September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Every day 43 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer. The Foundation raises money for clinical research directed to the cure of pediatric cancer and for organizations that care for families engaged in the pediatric cancer battle. A particular focus is to support U.S. military families with a member undergoing pediatric cancer treatment.
The Gold Out events for South County High School Football and Field Hockey were held this past week. The Volleyball Gold Out is scheduled for Sept 22. The Chamber salutes The Emma Jordon Kidz Fighting Cancer Foundation for their work in battling childhood cancer and for taking full advantage of their membership benefits. We also thank Steve and Elena for supporting the Chamber and our work in the community. Until next month, Casey Whitmarsh SFCC Chair

| Trademasters on Lockport Place in Lorton will be site of our September S.T.I.R.
We are welcoming the Fall season with an Open House networking event. We've extended the hours a bit, running from 3pm to 7pm to include local businesses in the area. This is a chance to build your business relationships, to further career goals, or find new opportunities.
Sharing your challenges, experiences and goals with fellow Chamber members allows for an exchange of ideas and insight to building a business in the South Fairfax area. We hope you can take advantage of this membership benefit and join us for some refreshments as we build connections on Friday, September 30. |
Grand Opening
The Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting for the new Lorton Community Center / LCAC / Lorton Library has been pushed back to mid-October. The Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to hosting an information table along with other key partners at the event. We will update you as details become available.

| | The South Fairfax Chamber was on hand for the grand opening celebration of the new Lorton Fire Station 19.
The new $14 million, two-story, four-bay facility is significantly larger than the prior fire station which was built in 1954. The station now has energy efficient and environmentally sustainable features.
