Community Involvement = Brand Awareness |
Casey Whitmarsh SFCC Chair |
| One of the things we pride ourselves on here at the Chamber is our involvement in the local community. Individual Chamber members as well as the Chamber at-large often sponsor local events, school activities, and youth sports teams.
One of our favorite events is the annual Lorton Spring Fling at South County High School. Our Executive Director Carla Olivo has been a part of the organizing committee since the event began three years ago. It's a day of family fun, kids' activities, food trucks, entertainment and some great shopping opportunities! SFCC members such as Trademasters, Brynmor Early Education & Preschool, Potomac Music, and I have been sponsors in the past.
While the Chamber has hosted an informational booth at these community events in the past, last year we decided to try something new. We came up the idea to host a "Commerce Carnival" highlighting participating member businesses. |
Young and old were invited to play carnival games to win prizes and learn about these local businesses. Participating Chamber businesses donated branded frisbees, coffee, mugs, drinking cups, hats, umbrellas, pens, rulers, sunglasses - all sorts of great swag. Each business also chipped in $50 which went towards the purchase of gift cards to be used as prizes and sent a representative to interact with the community during the event. For those businesses and non-profits looking to broaden their brand awareness in the Lorton/Fairfax community, this was a great way to do it! And for those new to the Chamber and the community, this is the perfect way to introduce yourself!
If the local community is integral to the success of your business, I urge you to consider participating in the SFCC Commerce Carnival at the Lorton Spring Fling on Saturday, April 20 by emailing Carla at SFCCExecDirector@gmail.com. Hope to see you there! Casey Whitmarsh SFCC Chair Casey@CaseyWhitmarsh.com |

Join the Chair's Special Pilot Committee |
SFCC Special Pilot Committee Chair Carla Olivo is seeking volunteers to help plan an upcoming Chamber fundraiser and community event. Much of the work of this committee is expected to take place virtually so it will not be a huge time commitment. A variety of skills are needed - event planning, publicity, organizing volunteers, gathering sponsors etc. If you or a member of your staff is interested in joining this new committee, please email Carla at SFCCExecDirector@gmail.com. |
